This postmodern bullshit that “avoiding the expected” and “shocking your audience” is more important than writing a good and coherent narrative has to die in a fire because it’s ruining storytelling.

It’s almost as though creators are latching onto cheap plot twists because they fear internet fandom and its ability to pour over details and come to a conclusion about the story. But why?

Having ideas and theorising on how things might end based on the development of the story won’t ruin the experience of actually seeing it. Watching it play out in a rough way to how we anticipate it, won’t leave the audience feeling empty. It will not disappoint. Because it’s not all about the broad strokes of the plot.

How many times have we all rewatched out favourite shows or reread our favourite books, again and again, over and over, knowing how it will end but falling back in love with the journey ever time.

If creators can’t write a coherent story that the audience can follow and watch develop without blocking POVs, removing buildup and making bullshit plot twists for shock value, then they’re not good writers, they’re not good story tellers.

We don’t love these stories because they shock us with cheap twists, we love them because the characters matter to us, the story matters to us and what matters most is how it makes us feel when we watch it play out. It’s about the journey.

It’s in the emotion and the depication of this story they portray, as they bring it to life before our eyes.

I don’t know what’s so fucking hard for them to understand.
