so, according to the writers, and the movie’s logic, as explained by the ancient one, and further proven by steve simply showing up as an old man at the end of the movie, without any time travel involved, you can’t create any new branched realities once you return all the stones, meaning steve just stayed in the past, in the main timeline, and decided to sit at home playing house all those years, watching all kinds of tragedies happen and pass him by, knowing that bucky is getting brainwashed right this second and for the next 70 years, and he did nothing.
